PocketHost v1.2.3: Faster, Cleaner Server Startup & Performance Optimization

Release

We are thrilled to release PocketHost v1.2.3, bringing massive engine speedups, cleaner memory footprints, and robust server lifecycle management to your pocket Minecraft server.

Here is an overview of everything new in this release!

🚀 Optimized Server Engine & Cleaner Startup

Running modern Minecraft (Paper 26.3, Fabric, Purpur, or Vanilla) on mobile hardware demands an engine that is lean, hyper-efficient, and cleanly tailored for Android devices.

In v1.2.3, the server runtime engine has been deeply optimized:

  • Faster Startup: Server initialization and classloading times have been significantly streamlined, letting your world boot up and reach an active, joinable state noticeably faster.
  • Cleaner Memory Footprint: Heap allocation behavior and thread scheduling have been tuned to prevent background memory bloat, keeping your phone cooler and reducing thermal throttling during long gaming sessions.
  • Rock-Solid 20 TPS: Stress-tested across a wide range of devices from midrange phones up to flagship Snapdragon chips, sustaining a flawless 20 TPS even when multiple players are loading new chunks simultaneously.
  • Clean Architecture: Refined internal runtime structures for smooth, lightweight execution without unnecessary background overhead.

⚡ Instant & Reliable Server Boot (No More False Launch Failures)

On fresh installations, downloading server jars like Paper or Fabric and bootstrapping the engine for the first time happen in parallel. Previously, a quick pre-launch check could trigger a false-alarm warning if the file took an extra second to unpack.

In v1.2.3, we introduced adaptive launch target polling (waitForLaunchTarget):

  • The server launcher gracefully waits up to 15 seconds for jars to finish unpacking, ensuring first-run launches boot smoothly without requiring manual retries.
  • Corrupted or interrupted network downloads are proactively identified before launch, giving you clear instructions to re-download rather than an obscure crash screen.

🧩 Automatic Mod Dependency Resolution via Modrinth

Managing server mods manually on mobile used to mean tracking down half a dozen library jars.

PocketHost now handles that entirely for you:

  • Automatic Dependency Fetching: When adding mods from Modrinth, any missing hard dependencies are identified, resolved, and downloaded automatically before the server boots.
  • Automatic Quarantine Restoration: Quarantined mods (.jar.disabled) are safely re-enabled automatically as soon as their required companion dependencies arrive.

🌐 Streamlined Bedrock Crossplay Bridge

We have streamlined our crossplay subsystem to focus exclusively on our high-throughput Geyser bridge. Bedrock players on iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch connect faster and experience smoother packet translation with reduced network jitter when playing alongside Java Edition friends.

🔄 In-App Updater & Seamless Process Recycling

  • In-App Updater for APK Users: If you installed PocketHost via direct APK download, the app now checks for updates directly against GitHub's global CDN and lets you upgrade in one tap without visiting a browser.
  • Process Recycling on Android 12+: Server restarts recycle the background worker cleanly, ensuring memory is completely wiped fresh between world switches.
